Looking after your wellbeing

Alcohol & substances

We recognise not everyone drinks alcohol and there are plenty of alcohol-free events as part of Welcome Week and throughout your time at the University of Nottingham. An increasing number of students are choosing not to drink for health, faith, social and even monetary reasons.

University is a time to enjoy yourself and if alcohol is going to be part of your life, there are a few things you can do to look after yourself. The last thing you want is for a nasty incident to spoil all your new experiences.

Be aware, if you do choose to drink alcohol there are short and long-term health risks associated with excessive drinking and binge drinking.

Illegal substances are illegal.

It is illegal to consume, produce, supply, or possess most recreational drugs and psychoactive substances in the UK. If you’ve not taken drugs before then there’s no reason to start. If you are thinking of trying something, then make sure you understand the risks and consequences so you can make an informed decision. Helpful information can be found through ‘Talk to Frank’.

Top Tip:  Download the DG cars app before you go out as a safe option for getting home. Set up an account and link a payment method. You will thank yourself later!
