To Be Stronger Together

How can we be stronger together?

In all that we do our University values are key, these are:

• Inclusivity
• Respect
• Fairness
• Ambition
• Openness

Inclusivity:

We celebrate diversity and practise inclusivity, ensuring that every member of our university community feels valued and acknowledged.

Respect, openness and fairness:

We uphold openness, fairness, and respect in all our interactions. These values form the foundation of a collaborative and supportive university community where ideas can flourish and innovation can thrive.

Positive relationships:

We are dedicated to fostering good relations between people. By forming positive relationships with one another, we create a vibrant university community that draws strength from our varied backgrounds and perspectives.

Treating others with dignity and consideration:

We expect staff and students to treat each other with dignity. Unacceptable behaviours can have a detrimental effect on the wellbeing of those directly affected by such behaviour or who are witness to it.

Protecting and promoting free speech:

We should all encourage civil and peaceful debate. The free exchange of ideas is central to us all being able to be our authentic selves and to advance truth, knowledge, and understanding.

Bullying, harassment and victimisation:

Bullying and harassment are unacceptable. If you are the victim of such, we will act. We are committed to ensuring everyone within the University community can study and work without fear of bullying, harassment, or victimisation. If you or someone you know has experienced or witnessed an incident, you can tell us anonymously or ask to speak to an advisor in the Report and Support team.

In embracing this, we affirm our commitment to building a university community centred on mutual respect for one another. By upholding these principles, we create an environment that nurtures personal growth, academic excellence, and a sense of belonging for all.

Our student community is an incredibly diverse one, comprising a vast range of identities, backgrounds and lived experiences.

As a member of our diverse community, we expect you to extend respect to others both on and off campus. We are a positive and peaceful community. Pledge to be a part of this so that we can be truly stronger together.

As a diverse and welcoming community, we pledge to support each other and be respectful of the challenges that each of us face in our everyday lives. We might be from different backgrounds and identities, but we are one community who are stronger together.

Students with a peer network are more likely to succeed and to feel like they both belong and are supported. It’s easy to find others if you know where to look!
