Looking after your wellbeing

What you might feel in your first week(s)

For many of you, university will be the best time of your life, but some may experience the "wobble" at first.

Adjusting to something new takes time and effort when there's a lot of new experiences going on - new place, new people, new lifestyle, etc. This is why it's normal for the transition period to be difficult at times. For example, you may:

  • Feel homesick being away from family and friends you’re used to seeing often.
  • Be overwhelmed or underwhelmed by the amount of stuff happening at first.
  • Feel like you don’t fit into the university community.
  • Experience British culture shock if arriving from abroad.

If you feel any of these things, it’s OK, and you are not alone. Look out for Wobble Week activities to provide an opportunity to unwind, share and belong.
